Looking toward 7th Grade

At the used book sale I saw all kinds of great ideas for 7th grade.  We are going to stick w/ using time4learning for a most of our stuff, but it got me to thinking about how somethings that change with each grade level.

Like the 7th grade math vocabulary , we will now be talking more algebraic words like equivalent, radicand, expression, simplify, binomial and more geometry words like diameter, convex, concave, perimeter, diagonal, oblique. there are so many that he will learn this next year.

Oh, what about writing. How about a different approach to writing. I think I have found a great way to teach writing and a few extra computer skills with a some keyboarding skills thrown in a the same time for Biggun next year.  We might try a blog writing course and see how that goes.  We would not make his blog public at first but once he felt comfortable then we would make it open to family and friends by invitation.  The boy is only 11 years old after all.

So as you look forward to the new school year what do you see that you might be learning?  I have a friend whose daughter will be starting duel enrollment classes so she will be adding to her vocabulary for  the college classes.  What a great adventure that will be for her.

Would love to hear about the new stuff your child might be learning about in the upcoming year.

  1. thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog. I had to pop over here and visit yours! :) I would love to hear your thoughts on Time4Learning. My son loves the computer (his dad is a programmer/designer) and I'm thinking this might be a good fit as a supplement for him??

  2. Michelle - I have no way of getting back to you???? No email? So I will share here and hope you read it. We love time4learning.com we are going to add our preschooler this fall. Since you have a blog you can try it for free if you want. They have a great program where you can try the program for a month in trade for a honest blog review. Check out this link toward the bottom is where the info is http://www.time4learning.com/newstomembers/ Easy as that. We have used time4learning.com since 2007 in some way or another.

  3. Thank you so much! YEs, i did get your comment on my blog and for some reason my email account was not allowing me to reply to you - even through your contact page. Not sure why. I just contacted Time4Learning and they are setting me up with the 30 trial in exchange for a review! I'm so excited. I've been intrigued with this program and can't wait to try it out. Thanks again, so much!!!
