Our Day: Back to (Home) School 2011

It is the last Monday in July, meaning that this Hop is almost over.  Today's theme is "Our Day!" what the plan for our day is.  Well since we restarted our schooling in new grades today.  I can tell you how it went today and how I plan for it to go from here on out.

Our day starts with Biggun getting up at 7am (his choice or should I say his puppies choice) He eats breakfast, walks the puppy and is doing his time4learning.com assignment from 8am.  He is doing language arts and social studies on time4learning.com when he is done with one of them he comes in to wake me up (if I am not already awake) That gives me time to totally wake up and eat breakfast before he is ready to do school with me. Once he is all done with that assignment done.  He moves to the table and we start bible (Draw to Learn: Psalms) We read the Psalms of the day together and he draws his assignment.  Then we move on to Math/Science (Life of Fred: Pre-Algebra and Biology) After that we move on to writing (Jump In)  We will be adding a chapter book to this but I want to get through the first 3 weeks of school first.  Get this routine down.  We will be working in 3 week blocks.  On week 4 we will have a special education review week, reviewing anything that needs reviewed before moving on.

Honey is all excited about her schooling.  We will do school a few days a week.  No given day will be set.  It will all depend our on our world.  I have purchased Rod and Staff Pre K and we are staring on the first work book in the set and the bible story and workbook.  I have also added pages from two other Sam's Club type workbooks, that go with the theme of the Rod and Staff books.  I have written out 12 days worth of assignments and filled out 12 days worth of work into a 12 different file folders.  We will add in some hands on games and activities. Along with time4learning preschool we will be checking out other preschool games.  She did great this am on the computer.  She just has to learn to only click the left button on the mouse not the left.

As you can see Moose is not happy that Honey is doing school work and he is not.  I think I am going to need to come up with some fun worksheet (colorsheets) for him to do too. :^)

One more thing. I came across a blog hop over at Three Thinking Mothers and wanted to add how we do scheduling.

Photobucket

I have tried lots of different ways to do planning.  From pre-made planners to planners on line even downloadable planner sheets.  But I keep going back to the good old black composition book. Here is a pic of the inside of it that we use...

Biggun is supposed to write the scores for the time4learning work on here but I took this picture before he did that.

For Honey I have a neat file folder system set up.  I will add the hands on things of course but this is for the worksheets she will be doing...

  4. It looks like you have a great start! For the little guy, keep some simple and small hands-on things for him that he is only allowed to use while the 'big kids' are doing schoolwork... like tiny containers of playdough, special Legoes, beading, puzzles, or a special coloring book. It makes the time special for him too! I remember when my daughter used to be just like that. :)

  5. I think it's awesome that he gets up and takes care of his dog and does some schoolwork on his own --- that's just really fantastic! =)
