Elementary Science Series - Week 1

In the month of February I am going to bring you a simple series on Elementary Science Series.

This week I am going to feature Kindergarten Science.

I found that kindergarten homeschool science (just like public school science) it was best to use our surroundings when learning.  Going outside and using our 5 senses.

  1. Feeling the weather -- is it hot, cold, wet…
  2. Seeing the weather -- is it bright, dark, foggy…
  3. Hearing the weather -- is it quiet, thunder booming, rainy…
  4. Smelling the weather -- is it wet smelling, dry smelling…
  5. Tasting the weather -- is it wet (raining/snowing), dry …
Weather has been a great science lesson this year. Even here in Florida. We had snow in north Florida!!!

Living and Non Living....

Living and Non Living is what we worked on this week in Kindergarten Science. On time4learning.com of course. (big smile) I love how they explained it. The octopus was cute that they have on there. I love how we are eclectic homeschoolers. We go with what ever works at the time. After we where done w/ school that day we made our own living octopus hand prints.

If you use time4learning.com do you take your lessons and add on to them w/ fun activities?

Fall is offically here in Florida!!!

Ok Fall is officially here in Florida for today and maybe this week. Who knows if it will stay we are talking Florida you know. Today's high of 66 with a low of 62. Woo Hoo that is awesome when you live in Florida!!!!

The kids are begging to do school outside and well for the most part have been outside all day. We finally finished our school work so they are free to enjoy this wonderful weather. I need to look up some phonics games while I have time to see if I can get Honey rolling on phonics. She loves her time she spends on her Kindergarten curriculum online - time4learning.com but I think we need to possibly start some phonics.

Well I have been on this computer inside long enough time to join my kids outside in this beautiful weather! No promises here in Florida how long it will last.

On a side note I am praying for all those who are being effected by Sandy the storm. My prayers are with you. May God be with you.

Older helping younger.

This week we have a first in our house. My oldest helped my youngest do "preschool" work. I have not really planned on giving my 3 year old worksheets to do but when he saw his 5 year old sister doing them he wanted some. So I found some simple worksheets and he had been blowing me away. But this week while I helped Honey with her school work. Moose and Biggun worked on Mooses worksheets. It was a wonderful sight to see.

Biggun did a great job.

Honey had a great time with her school work. Never met a child who begs to do school work. She loves to do her school work but does get frustrated on the the dot to dot repeats we do. She has to trace a pattern of dot to dots then try to make the same program dot to dot pattern.  She keeps getting frustrated with it but this is important for her to be able to do this in that one she needs to follow directions but she also needs it for helping her form letters.

He favorite time of school is when she is doing time4learning.com K. Moose like to watch her at the same time.

As you can see Biggun at then end of the table he really looks thrilled. But he never looks thrilled to do school work. I think it is the age (13) (big smile) He is working on his Co-op homework and spelling in this picture above. We use some of the teacher resources out there to help with these subjects.

That is about it for our week.

Strouse Academy in Full Swing!!!!

Oh boy how do ya'll w/ more then 3 kids do it? I honestly don't know how you do it. I am struggling w/ just 3. But 5 or even 8 kids. WOW don't know how you do it. Bless you and God be with you during your school year and daily life. With that being said, Strouse Academy is in full swing.

Now if you don't know that is 8th grader doing writing, a Kindergarten doing cutting and pasting the correct number of items to the right place and a Preschooler who is circling what is different in each line.

You can see my seat is on the other side infront of the computer. I can work and help look stuff up at the same time they are working. The biggest issue we have right now is getting the littles to stop talking while I am giving directions to Biggun. We will get there. It just seems right this very moment that it will take forever. (big smile)

Today they all started to hum different songs at the table so I asked them if they wanted music. (Evil eye goes here) They all said YES, yes yes!!!! So went to youtube and looked up Mozart. That totally shocked them but they all stopped humming their own song to hear what was being played. Which made this momma smile!!!

Here are some pic of our day today....

Biggun needs to work on co-op Us Geography cause the teacher keeps sending home papers where we have to fill in the blanks. We will be adding some US Geography games to help him with that.

Well this blog needs to end cause Honey is bugging me to do her daily Time4Learning.com activities for Kindergarten.

Hope your school year is getting off to a great start.
