What do you use to do Review?

How well do your children do at alphabetizing? We have covered this a few years ago. But there is always room for review. Not only did we find some great games but we also found some alphabetical order worksheets. What a great resource for review.

Another great use of SpellingCity.com is to review sight words. They have great sight word list, that has games like Teach Me, Unscramble and Missing Letter.

Multiplication is always an area that is always in need of review. A great tool to use for review of multiplication are multiplication games online.  Quick and easy to use online games for review.

These are just a few things we use to do review in our house. What do you use for review in your home.

Resource for Vocabulary and Spelling.

How many of you have kids who love to do word searches? I know my son would rather do a word search then copy his spelling/vocabulary words or even write sentences for those same words. One of the best tools I have found for creating word searches is on VocabularySpelling City. It is so easy to make a word search. Just follow the simple directions.

Word Search Printable Instructions: Unlike other printable word games on VocabularySpellingCity, Word Search may not be printed directly from the Games page. To create a printable word search, make your selections and click play. Once the word search puzzle appears on the screen, click the print button at the bottom of the grid.

It is as easy as that.  If you want to play the word search online you can do that too.  What resources do you use to help your kids with spelling/vocabulary words?

Spelling Flashcards!

We are using ACE Word building to help Biggun with his spelling and reading. Biggun enjoys this because he knows exactly how many pages he has to do. He can look ahead and see what he will be doing. This has been a great way to build his vocabulary and reading ability. But we needed some extra help with some of the larger words. I turned to spelling flashcards and games with those certain words.  Spellingcity.com makes it very easy. I just add the words he needs to practice more to a list and there are all kinds of things we can use for him to work on learning those words.

As you an see there in the two screen shots you get a definition, how it is used in a sentence and then actual word.  If you look at the bottom of the screen you can see that these flash cards are printable.  We love all the spelling printables that are available to us using spellingcity.com Take note of the GREEN button, that one is Play a Game! We like that section too.

Back to School in a few more days...

Only a few more days until we go back to school. I don't know who dreads it more me or the kids. I have enjoyed the 2 week break from school. Well the littles LOVE school. They love the time4preschool.com and the kindergarden time4learning.com program along with the other LightHouse workbooks we also use. But they are young and they love doing school. They ask daily for school work. We have done some simple things but not "school."

As for Biggun he is not happy about going back to school work. But he will be more happy then he was last semester cause now he has his own laptop to work on for school. We will be adding Time4Learning.com's Algebra. I have been using time4learning.com forever it seems and did not know they had Algebra as an option. But we will try it and see how it goes. He will also be able to do his spelling list on Spellingcity.com.  There are spelling list by grade but we make our own. Since he is in 8th grade.

The End and the Beginning!

Our summer is coming to an end. (Insert MOM crying here, I mean Kids crying here) We are one of those strange homeschool families that this year we chose to wait till after Labor Day to start up school officially.  Even though our public school has been in for about 2 weeks now.  With us starting after Labor Day it works out great cause we also will be starting co-op the week after we start school. So it will slide right into our schedule.

Honey is excited about co-op. this is her first year to get to go. She will be in the kindergarden class. They do not switch classes, but have the same teacher all day and do all kinds of fun educational things. Honey is also going to be using time4learning.com kindergarden level along with work books. We are going to take a laid back kindergarden year. I don't want to make some of the same mistakes I made w/ Biggun. We will be going w/ the flow.

Biggun will be taking at co-op

• Beginner Sign Language, (I have tried to teach this but have not had any luck so hoping this will stick.) 
• Chosen Choir - He has wanted to sing at church but has not been able to.
• Writing Sentence by Sentence - He can always use any extra help in writing. 
• US Geography - It will be interesting what new things he learns about the US Geography.
• American Mysteries - This class sounded like it was going to so much fun. 

He had wanted a PE class but I over ruled that one. Maybe next semester. We will be using a lot of PACE's for our curriculum along with some websites. His evaluator says he needs to work on fraction lessons and spelling list by grade to catch up with his grade. 

As our days count down and we are almost to where we have to buckle down it seems to rain every day.  That is just not right for Florida is it? We are hoping to get something fun in this weekend with the whole family. 

Here is to the end of summer and beginning of our school year.!  (insert mom crying again)

All in ONE!

The other day as I was loading up a list of spelling words to Spellingcity.com 
and realized that there are handwriting worksheets avaliable.  Not only are there handwriting worksheets avaliable BUT you can make them to go w/ what ever spelling list you want.  There are so many options to create your list.  I am so excited over this.  If you could see my face while I type this, I am grinning from ear to ear!!!

Ok let me see if I can explain all the choices.....

I know the picture is fuzzy but I wanted to enlarge it so you could see.  You can choose from print, d'nealan, cursive, and get this SIGN.  Yep that is sign as in sign language.  You can print out a sheet that will show you each letter of the word on your spelling list in the hand sign for sign language.  That to me is too neat.

You can then choose to have the arrows on or off.  That is the arrows that show your child which way to make the pencil move.

You can choose to have the words all in upper case or lower case.
You can also choose small, medium or large for the right size for your child.

This is a great bonus for our schooling to help w/ Biggun to work on his cursive writing/reading and to practice his spelling words too. 

If you have younger kids you can use the Dolch-Sight Words list to not only do spelling games but also to do handwriting worksheets too.
