What do you use to do Review?

How well do your children do at alphabetizing? We have covered this a few years ago. But there is always room for review. Not only did we find some great games but we also found some alphabetical order worksheets. What a great resource for review.

Another great use of SpellingCity.com is to review sight words. They have great sight word list, that has games like Teach Me, Unscramble and Missing Letter.

Multiplication is always an area that is always in need of review. A great tool to use for review of multiplication are multiplication games online.  Quick and easy to use online games for review.

These are just a few things we use to do review in our house. What do you use for review in your home.

Use the WHOLE house.

Doing school in different areas of the house has always been normal for us. I know there are some homeschoolers who do school at the table or in a certain room ONLY.

But for us we do school ALL OVER, the most common place for us to do school is on my king size bed. I know strange place but it works. That is not the only place for school work to be done.

This past week we did wall school.

What is wall school? It is when you do school work on the wall of course. I know silly, right? But Honey has been doing so good on her math I wanted her to have some extra fun. She loves to draw, write, doodle (she is her momma's daughter) and what more fun then to write on a big piece of paper.  This wall is in my dinning room/living room combo area.

I know of some people who have dry erase boards low for their kids to write on and use for school. In fact we used to have one for Biggun on that used to lean on that exact wall. Not sure what happen to that board. We also have a chalk board on our pantry door, in the kitchen, that has been used for many different things over the years.

Below is what our door look like today. The white square on the bottom is a hole that I covered to keep kids from getting scratched while they use the board.

Here is an example of a chalk board being used in a home of a fellow homeschoolers, TheJoyfulChaos. I would love to do this with a full wall. But not sure where we would put it.

Here is TheJoyfulChaos's chalk board wall in action.

Oh one more from the TheJoyfulChaos just for fun!

That leads me to think of more alternative ways we might do school through out the day.
Having your child do school work in different ways really can help a child to focus. I have been told by those who homeschool ADD/ADHD child that standing can help them focus. My kids do not have either of those but standing is always an option in our house. Every home has its own homeschool learning style ours is anything works.

Where do you do school work? Do you do school in the same area everyday? Do you sit, stand even lay down? I would love to know, leave a comment and share with me.

Warm Colors on the Walls.

We finally took the plunge and painted out living room.  We went against the grain for us and painted warm colors. The largest wall of the living room is Wrought Iron Blue, the door wall the double sliding glass door is on is Molasses Brown, the rest of the walls are Tobacco Leaf. Strange names for paint.

Here is the wrought iron blue wall. I am in love with the color. It is so warm.

You can't see much of the molasses brown wall but it is there along with the tobacco leaf color.

We also got curtains for our sliding glass doors. Solid dark blue that look great. I love that they are solar  curtains. They block out the sun from coming in, which is bad during sunset.  They are not thick and heavy either, instead they are very light weight.

In the living room I got new curtains, too.

They match wonderfully.  I have never been one to decorate and it look good. This is my favorite decorating job yet. I just want to sit and enjoy my living room/dining room.  It is very relaxing.  Over the next few weeks we will be working on a floor treatment.  We are going to practice on our floor then do my mom's floor over the summer break.  I can't wait to share with you when we do it.

On a side note, I had someone who has a child with math anxiety send me a request for info on what we use for  algebra curriculum.  We have used 3 kinds over the past year and a half. We have used Time4Learning.com algebra, Life of Fred Pre-Algebra and we are using Keys to Algebra right now. I like that if he gets stuck on a concept he can can go to Time4Learning.com and watch it being explained until he gets it.

Math, Writing Letters and School w/ Big Daddy!

Math, Math, Math, Math, Math!!!!

This used to be the favorite subject in our house and reading was the subject that Biggun did not like. Well once you mix letters with numbers the math anxiety sets in and Biggun feels like he can't do it.

Yes, I am talking about algebra. With algebra you have letters mixed with numbers. To my son it seems like there is now reading his hated subject mixed in with his favorite subject.

Biggun started to algebra on time4learning.com today and the above picture is what it started out like.

Then it was praying that he would understand it.

Then there was get 100% on the quiz!!!!!! Yep the boy got 100% on his first quiz. What a great way to help him get past the math anxiety.

Honey worked on writing her letters today. She was not doing such a good job with a regular pencil, I gave her a colored pencil and it was like she came to life and was able to get all her tracing perfect after that.

She worked so hard.

I wish I had a picture of Moose doing his time4preschool.com with Big Daddy. The two of them have had done school work two days in row and they both seem to be having lots of fun "playing the preschool games" with the program.
